First Winter Male King Eider at LaSalle Marina in Burlington

First winter male King Eider at LaSalle Marina in Burlington on 17 February 2012. The same individual was at Bayfront Park in Hamilton earlier in February. King Eiders are regular winter visitors in small numbers on Lake Ontario.

It was always with Mallards, in particular a female Mallard, which it followed closely. LaSalle Park in Burlington on 17 February 2012

Often near the shore, this first winter King Eider showed no concern for all the people who like to watch the ducks and swans at LaSalle, and provided a great opportunity to study its plumage. 17 February 2012.
