Carden Alvar Loggerhead Shrike Family Group

Adult Loggerhead Shrike on east side of Wylie Road at Bluebird Box 10. The poles are perfect perches for adult shrikes to hunt beetles and grasshoppers in the grass below. All photos digiscoped from the public road on 16 June 2012

At times the juvenile shrikes retreated from the fence or brush pile to a nearby hawthorn bush where they rested in the shade until the adults came to feed them again.

Now is the perfect time to see Loggerhead Shrikes. The young are out of the nest and are very vocal, begging for food. 16 June 2012
