Ruby-throated Hummingbirds at Rosetta McClain Gardens

Ruby-throated Hummingbird on "Black and Blue" Salvia Salvia guaranitica at Rosetta McClain Gardens in east Toronto. 23 September 2012

 

Nicotiana Nicotina sylvestris, tall with white tubular flowers and sweetly perfumed at night, Canna Lily (tall with orange flowers), "Black and Blue" Salvia Salvia Guaranitica attracted at least 5 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds on 23 September 2012.

 

The hummingbirds at Rosetta most frequently visited "Black and Blue" Salvia on 23 and 24 September 2012.

 

Long bill and tongue for feeding on nectar in tubular flowers.

 

This hummingbird was alert, keeping an eye on the other hummingbirds. All were aggressive and territorial.

 

The hummingbirds fed a lot, rested frequently, preened and stretched. 23 September 2012.

 

Late Monarch Butterflies rested on Flowering Tobacco at Rosetta McClain, 24 September 2012.
