Bohemian Waxwings in Markham, Ontario

Bohemian Waxwing eating crab apples north of Toronto in Markham, Ontario, on 17 March 2013

In the area of Wootten Way and Highway 7 in Markham, hundreds of Bohemian Waxwings are putting on a show, eating the abundance of ornamental crab apples in front of residences.

After and before feasting on crab apples, the Bohemians rest high in neighbouring trees, trilling away. The main flock we saw numbered around 200 birds, and there were a few smaller flocks of about 20 to 40.

The Bohemians are often in the company of American Robins, which are also eating crab apples.
