Female Kirtland's Warbler at Point Pelee

Female Kirtland's Warbler on Centennial Trail at Point Pelee on 18 May 2013. Found by Brandon and Eric Holden.

The second Kirtland's Warbler at Point Pelee in 4 days, this endangered species is spreading from its main breeding range in Michigan and we should be watching for it elsewhere in Ontario. It is now breeding at Canadian Forces Base Petawawa near Algonquin Park. Management of Jack Pine stands is planned for Algonquin Park in the hope that Kirtland's Warblers will breed there. This summer, surveys will be conducted in northeastern Ontario to search for it.

Today we stood still, watching the Kirtland's search the leaf litter for food and hop onto the trail in front of us.
