Loggerhead Shrike on the Carden Alvar

This unbanded Loggerhead Shrike was with another on the Carden Alvar on 19 April 2015. Eleanor Beagan and I passed through Carden on our way home from the OFO Algonquin trip and spotted two Loggerhead Shrikes very close to the road.

Same Loggerhead Shrike. We are unsure whether the second one was banded or unbanded. They both perched on the wires and fence beside the road. 19 April 2015. In 2014 there were only 16 pairs of Loggerhead Shrikes sighted in Ontario: 9 pairs in Carden plus 11 unpaired birds, 6 pairs in Napanee and 1 pair in Smiths Falls. This is not good news. It will be interesting to see how many birds return to the Carden Alvar this breeding season.
