			Eastern Towhee double-scratching in my
Toronto garden on 30 October 2016. Ron Pittaway and I aged it as a
first year male by the brownish primaries (black in adults). We
first noticed this super-scratcher by seeing the leaves flying from
vigorous kicks with its large feet. The National Geographic Guide -
6th Edition (2011) says on page 460 under Eastern Towhee: "Like
other towhees, Eastern scratches with its feet together." Note the
edged upper tail coverts create a beautiful pattern. |
