Virginia Rails on the Carden Alvar |
|
Today
while leading a birding trip for the Couchiching Conservancy, we had
amazing views of a family of Virginia Rails. There were two adults
and at least 6 young chicks. Sometimes when a lone chick is seen
it's mistaken for the rare Black
Rail. 11 June 2016. |

Chicks seemed to take turns scurrying
along under the parent, pecking whatever food the parent turned up
with its probing bill.

It was a spectacle of
nature, something I haven't seen before. |
