Franklin's Gull in Toronto

First summer Franklin's Gull at Ashbridges Bay/Woodbine Beach in Toronto on 27 May 2017. It had huge white eye arcs and a black hood with white speckling. The bill was black with a burgundy red tinge and tip. This prairie breeder is one of my favourite gulls.

The breast had a hint of the pink tinge, which is brilliant pink on breeding plumaged adult Franklin's Gulls.

The mantle shade was darker grey than Ring-billed Gulls and Bonaparte's Gulls. It was smaller than the Ring-billed Gulls.
