First Year King Eider in Toronto

First year male King Eider at Colonel Sam Smith Park in Toronto. This is an interesting and attractive plumage. If it stays for a while it will be interesting to see how it molts. Ron Pittaway and I met up with friends for a lovely afternoon - Charmaine Anderson and others.16 January 2017.

Video of King Eider preening and foraging on Lake Ontario

The light was amazing, bringing out all the colours.

The lake water is very clear, probably the result of zebra mussels. Note pointed shape of tail feathers.
