This beautiful male Varied Thrush from the west is wintering in
Ontario and attracting many visitors. Many thanks to Joe Fortin who
first spotted the Varied Thrush at Bark Lake Leadership and
Conference Centre bird feeders, and arranged for visitors to view

The undertail coverts are spectacular with this
gorgeous pattern. Thrushes show off their undertail coverts by
raising their tail and leaning forward - there must be a reason for

Much of the breeding range of this thrush is in Canada in British
Columbia and Yukon, where it likes dark, humid conifer
