14. Kumlien's Iceland Gull in second winter plumage has bicoloured bill and is acquiring grey upperparts. Bluffers Park on 30 January 2011.

Foreground: Iceland Gull in first winter plumage with mostly black bill and all pale primary wingtips is more like nominate Larus glaucoides glaucoides, but probably impossible to identify to subspecies. This is the only bird in first winter plumage. Where are the first winter birds? Revised 3 February 2011

 

21. Back: Winter adult with very slight grey in white primary wingtips and it has light pigmentation in the irides putting it very close to nominate L. g. glaucoides on the clinal continuum. L. g. glaucoides is casual in Ontario and there is an adult specimen from Ottawa in the Canadian Museum of Nature. Bluffers Park on 29 January 2011. Revised 3 February 2011.
