It seems odd that a northern gull like
this adult Kumlien's Gull from the Canadian Arctic has ice forming
on its legs. It hasn't been extremely cold. Except for some loose
ice in this small harbour, Lake Ontario is wide open. Bluffers Park

pointed out that since gulls have a special circulatory system in
their legs that prevents legs from icing up, this gull may not be in
