First Summer Black-legged Kittiwake at Bronte Harbour

It had black legs and feet. On its webbed feet you could see three toes with claws for gripping rocks and ice. It doesn't have much of a hind toe.

 

Its black bill was becoming yellow at the base. It had a black spot on each side of its head and the lesser and many median coverts were brown, which in flight formed part of the distinctive dark M on the upper wing.
