Two juvenile Red Knots on 31 August 2010

 

A good selection of juvenile shorebirds was at Frenchman's Bay in Pickering just east of Toronto on 31 August 2010

Juvenile Red Knot on 31 August 2010. Note dark subterminal mark in the scapulars and coverts indicates a juvenile.

 

There were six Stilt Sandpiper. This individual is in juvenal plumage on 31 August 2010.

 

Stilt Sandpiper molting to first basic plumage. Several grey basic feathers are already in the upper scapulars. 31 August 2010.

 

Grey morph juvenile Baird's Sandpiper on 31 August 2010. Record numbers of juvenile Baird's are being reported in Ontario this year.
