Page 5 Akimiski Survey Crew 1-25 August

 

Lisa Pollock, Masters student at Trent University, is studying the importance of Akimiski Island to migrating shorebirds.

Andrée-Michelle D'Aoust-Messier, MNR, assisted Lisa with shorebird surveys, banding, and invertebrate studies.

 

 

Danica Hogan, MNR, assisted Lisa with shorebird surveys, banding, and invertebrate studies.

Ben Walters, Masters student at Trent University, banded shorebirds to collect measurement data and find out how long they stage on Akimiski Island.

 

 

Dr. David Beresford, Entomologist and Assistant Professor at Trent University, studied Akimiski's flies, biting insects, and lice on shorebirds.

Jean Iron assisted Lisa with shorebird surveys, and provided information on identification, age classes and molt. We went swimming during heat wave on 21 August. Water temperature was 27C, warmer than Lake Ontario.
