American Bittern and Pacific Loon

American Bittern in the ditch just outside Point Pelee National Park on 9 May 2011. It was likely eating frogs, which were calling.

Pacific Loon in first winter/summer plumage on the west side of Point Pelee on 9 May 2011. It had white spots on the mantle. First winter and first summer plumages overlap and may be continuous during a Pacific Loon's first spring and summer. Most adult Pacific Loons acquire full breeding plumage by May.
