Common Loons at Point Pelee

Three Common Loons met off the Tip at Point Pelee: one in first summer plumage, one in presumed second summer plumage, and an adult in breeding plumage. Check out their behaviour as they scrutinize each other in the video. They seem pleased to see each other.

They went round in circles looking at each other.

 

Adult in full breeding plumage on its way to our northern lakes.

 

Presumed second summer plumage. Common Loons take 3 to 4 years to attain full breeding plumage.

 

Common Loon in first summer plumage, i.e. almost a year old because it hatched last year.
