Hybrid Redhead x Ring-necked Duck at Frenchmans Bay

Pickering, east of Toronto, Ontario on 17 March 2018

This interesting hybrid Redhead x Ring-necked Duck continues at the southwest corner of Frenchmans Bay feeding with Redheads along the edge of the melting ice. It shows characters of both species and except for its brown head looks like a Ring-necked Duck when it swims about:

Redheads are the most numerous duck in this corner of Frenchmans Bay. It superficially looks like them, with a similar orange eye colour and a similar white subterminal band on the bill. Its brownish-red head is duller compared to the brighter red of Redhead. Frenchmans Bay on 17 March 2018
