Long-billed Curlew at Blackie Spit BC

On our recent trip to British Columbia, we were thrilled to see North America's largest shorebird at Blackie Spit on Boundary Bay. Long-billed Curlew is a regular at this location and easy to see as it feeds along the tide line. Probing in the mud/sand for crabs and shrimps, it caught a crab, which is one of its favourite foods. I could have watched it for hours. 19 September 2018.

Shorebirds have beautiful intricate plumages, and Long-billed Curlew is one of the finest. Ron Pittaway and I saw a Long-billed Curlew on Boundary Bay in 1994, when it was one of the Three Amigos with Bar-tailed Godwit and Whimbrel.
