Black-legged Kittiwake at Cobourg Harbour

Black-legged Kittiwake still mostly in juvenal plumage told by the wide black collar, all black bill and well marked ear spot. Cobourg Harbour on 14 February 2011.

 

It was very close and often swam with Mallards.

 

Thousands of gulls rested on ice in the harbour. 14 February 2011.

 

Second winter Glaucous Gull among Herring Gulls

Adult Lesser Black-backed in winter plumage

 

First winter Kumlien's Gull, one of about seven.

 

Cobourg Harbour is excellent for gull watching. Eight species on 14 February 2011: Ring-billed, Herring, Lesser Black-backed, Great Black-backed, Kumlien's, Thayer's, Glaucous Gulls and Black-legged Kittiwake. No Mew Gull which was seen the day before.
