Black Guillemot found by Mark Peck
on 18 July 2009. We aged it as first summer (first alternate)
because it has retained faded brown juvenile primaries that contrast
with black body feathers. The secondaries are white tipped and the
wing patch which is formed by greater and median secondary coverts
is very worn. Both are characters of first summer (first alternate)
plumage. |
