Eastern Wolves and Moose Carcass in Algonquin Park

Eleanor Beagan and I saw this Eastern Wolf Canis lycaon running along side the highway in Algonquin Park near km 11. It was heading west at a brisk pace. 20 April 2013.

Dead Moose carcass between km 10 and km 11. The wolf was heading for the carcass beside the road, spotted by Professor Michael Noonan and his students from Canisius College in Buffalo NY on 20 April 2013. On the log in front of the Moose, Professor Noonan set up a camera to take night photos. Below are photos sent by Michael Noonan. Reproduced with his permission.

Next day, the Moose carcass showed it had been eaten overnight by Wolves and maybe other animals. Turkey Vultures were feeding on it later in the day. Unfortunate for the Moose, it was a welcome meal for many other animals. 21 April 2013.
